In Memory of Dr. Zira

Last year Dr. Zira passed away on March 8 from pneumonia.   We adopted her at age 9 and I always feel bad that we were not able to help her more.  She was always a shy dog, and never very affectionate.  Sometimes she would bat me with a foot for a pet and it was so sweet.  She preferred to stay at home and never loved the car rides and walks our others dogs adore.  I do feel we gave her best years though, and I miss her sweet little monkey face.    I wish every dog could start out life in a loving home so they could enjoy the world fully, but Im glad we were able to give Zira a place to spend her last years in comfort.   Here is my favorite picture of my little girl:

  2. So sorry about this sad anniversary, but you sure do have wonderful memories of your sweet Dr. Z. I loved the picture of Tubby and Dr. Z's tongues hanging out. Such a little face to house such a big tongue. So funny.

  6. she is one of the cutest little dog faces i've ever seen! i feel the same way about phyllis, and especially priscilla since she is 8 at least. both came to us in not great shape and sometimes i wish i knew how they spent their first lives (and i want to know who the heck kicks a blind or three legged pug out on the street since they were both strays!) but i like that I can love them as much as I can for their remaining years and treat them like a dog needs to be treated! i bet dr. zira appreciated being in a safe, loving, fun home.

  12. I think it is wonderful that you gave her a warm loving home right when she needed it most. Even though she's gone, at least she knew your love and affection.
