Norbert's 10th Birthday Give Away

In the next few days Norbert will turn ten years old.   As a rescue brought into the NYCACC Staten Island shelter when he was a puppy  his birthday is a guestimate.  I have some mixed feelings about my big guy turning ten. I've been incredibly blessed to share ten wonderful years with him, however a dog loving co-worker of mine has been known to say: "with big dogs anything beyond ten years is a gift."  This idea gives me a shudder.  In ten years Norbert and I have never been apart and the thought of life with out him is grim.  On the positive side if every day beyond ten years is a gift then I need to be really thankful for that time and celebrate every minute of it.  So in the spirit of celebrating every minute (and hoping for many more years) we are hosting a special birthday give away!

    As someone who's lost 2 of their (big) senior dogs this year, I agree that anything past 10 is a precious gift. We enjoyed 3.5 and 4 "extra" years with ours. Such a blessing! Wishing Norbert a very happy birthday! Woofs from Jeffie and Rudy, too!

    Happy early birthday, Norbert! Every day is a gift, no matter what the age. It's not that easy to implement, especially when someone has peed on the floor for the third time that day, but something I try to remember.

    I didn't know 10 was considered very old for a big dog. Just cherish every moment you have. He looks like he still has a lot of spunk in him.
