On Saturday we celebrated Dr. Zira's 13th birthday. Usually I make a birthday cake for the dogs from scratch but in September I ran across a product in one of my favorite pet stores, Zoomies in Manhattan, to cute to resist: K9 Cakery's birthday cake kit. It was the retro style box that hooked me, I love anything retro.
The kit is twenty dollars and comes with a foil dog bone cake pan, peanutbutter cake mix, and yogurt frosting mix, and a candle.
The cake mix is made with rice flour, so that makes it a good choice for some dogs with allergies. All you need to do is add to the cake mix is water, vegetable oil, and eggs. For the frosting you only need to add water. The cake came out very cute and if I had been more careful about frosting it, it would have looked even better. The hounds all loved the cake.
K9 Cakery also sells biscuit mix and cake decorating supplies.
