Eggs and B (A Wodehousian Breakfast)

In my post yesterday I wrote about one of may favorite authors, and noted dog lover, PG Wodehouse.  I can't read PG Wodehouse, or watch the brilliant Jeeves and Wooster tv show without thinking about breakfast in bed.   See Bertie Wooster, gentleman of  leisure that he is, doesn't rise before 10:30 in morning at which time his man servant Jeeves brings him his breakfast in bed, usually eggs and bacon, or as Bertie refers to it Eggs and B.

While eggs and b might taste best served in bed by an incredibly competent genius of man servant it is still pretty good if you make it for yourself.  I like to make slow cooked scrambled eggs for my Wodehousian breakfast although I am unsure of how Bertie prefered his eggs.

Slow Cooked Scrambled Eggs

  • 5 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp half and half
  • 2 tbsp fresh herbs (I used chives and dill)
  • 2 tbsp butter
Beat the eggs with the half and half and herbs.   Melt the butter over very low heat in a non-stick skillet.   Add the eggs and cook over very, very low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.  The eggs should cook up slowly, it may take as long as a half an hour, I prefer them very soft but cook them until they meet your own specifications.

Serve with B(bacon) of course, toast and marmalade, and preferably kippers (I couldn't find any at whole foods).  To drink you should really have tea, preferably Early Gray, but as much as I like tea I need coffee.  I also made broiled grapefruit but I doubt that is traditional. It's  a lovely breakfast though, to bad the hounds can't make it and deliver it to me in bed.

Oh and Tubby is smiling wide because this is our 100th post!
