Bob practicing his Elvis sneer |
Yesterday, January 8, was Elvis's bitrthday. We aren't the biggest Elvis fans here to be honest. Though he is famous for that schmaltzy dog song Old Shep,
but we do think the King had great tastes in sandwiches. Elvis apparently ate several Peanut butter, Bacon, and banana sandwiches daily, and what self respecting dog, hound or otherwise, doesn't drool at the mention of Peanut Butter, Bacon and Bananas. So mom made us some special Elvis inspired treats (though she left out the bacon, silly Mom said it was too fatty for us but we have seen her eat truckloads of the stuff over the years!) Here's the recipe for the snack mom made.
Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches for Hounds
- 1 large banana
- Peanut butter, several table spoons
- Wheat germ (optional)
- Honey
Hounds awaiting their Elvis snacks (Ping is sporting her poodle skirt for the occasion). |
Norbert takes a taste. |
Tubby takes a taste. |
Elvis Sandwich (serves two, or one if you are Elvis in which case you must also add bacon)
- 4 slices of white bread
- Creamy peanut butter, like Jiff or Skippy
- 1 large banana mashed
- Honey
- 2 tbsp butter
Yum Yum! From the 4 leggers and the humans!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Elvis, too, wherever you are.

Oooooo...that sounds delish. I absolutely love peanut butter but have never had a banana before. I'll have to persuade my 'rents to give it a try.

ReplyDeleteHere I thought I had heard every Elvis song and now one I haven't! Thanks for a walk down memory lane with this Elvis video.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special treat you all enjoyed!
As long as it results in tasty treats, any event will do.
ReplyDeleteMA-kytah and Shady are in Germany now at last............and I am going to try this recipe. Oh yummy yummy.
ReplyDeleteJen says that even though she is southern born and raised, she has never eat one of those Elvis specials. In fact, she's never had a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich. But she does love pb and banana on some whole wheat bread. Mmmmmm......
ReplyDeleteCoincidentally, we learned last night that Isabelle doesn't care for bananas. Can you imagine? Tallulah and Petunia will eat just about anything.
ReplyDeleteHappee Birthday sweetie...your snacks look so tasty. We love those bananas

I am a believer of giving animals good names. Fido just doesn't cut it. I LOVE your choice of names. I am also very pleased to see the wheatgerm included in the peanut butter/banana recipe. That simple addition turns it into health food. :)
ReplyDeleteWoof! Woof! Happy Birthday! Oh what a perfect Birthday Treat ... ELIVIS style. YUM Tasty. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
