Most people know that pugs
originated in China.
This happened approximately 3,000 years ago during the Shang Dynasty. Pugs were bred to be companions to the emperors and where central to court life. They were carried all over the palaces on silken cushions and had their own servants. According to the book Pugs in Public by Kendall Farr one infactuated emperor, Lung-Tu, awarded his pug the country's highest level of literacy achievement, the Hosien Grade, complete with official hat and belt! (and the tradition of dressing up pugs began.) Later pugs where imported to Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries.
Of course yesterday was the first day of Chinese New Year so its an appropriate time for pugs and their brethren to celebrate their heritage. First Tubby took a walk in his Fortune Cookie jacket
Then all the hounds sampled a new treat Kung Fu Fido Fortune Cookies from Sojos. They come in a cute box
and they look just like regular fortune cookies:
They are also super delicious. Look at how badly we all wanted one:
Best of all there is a cute fortune cookie saying inside each one! Lie:
"If you are hungry, eat. If you're tired sleep. If you're tired of eating, you're not a dog."
Sadly, according to the Sojos website they are discontinuing the cookies! At least we have enough to last us through the 15 days of celebration this year.
Woof! Woof! Happy Tasty Tuesday! Oh LOVE the box too ... Golden Laughs on the fortune. ENJOY your Tasty Tuesday. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteKung Hei Fat Choy! Tubby in his fortune cookie jacket is adorable! I think red is his color! What a great idea, fortune cookies for dogs! Too bad they are not going to make them anymore. Enjoy the 15 days of the Chinese New Year with your babies!

LOL, I love the picture of all the pups gathered around. That is too sweet. I was just reading a recipe for doggy fortune cookies over at Life with Arie & Doggy Dessert Chef (linked to the Tasty Tuesday blog hop) Maybe next year you can try whipping up your own?
ReplyDeleteThat fortune cookie jacket is totally amazing! Did you make that for Tubby? It looks too original to be from a pet store. Tubby is a one sharp-dressed dude.
