Tasty Tuesday-Summer Time Saute

Sometimes plain old kibble http://www.balancediet.com/Portals/0/KibbleShot-Featured-400px.jpg

gets a little......well dull.

Ugh, more boring old kibble.  Sheesh!

At times like these you need a kibble topper.  Mom's secrete formula is pretty simple: a meat, a fruit, and a veggie.  Since its summer mom used turkey, yellow summer squash and cherries.  (Note: there is some internet talk that wild cherries are bad for dogs, the pits are definitely bad as they contain trace amounts of cyanide.)  Apparently too many cherries can cause GI upset, but other information says a few cherries are good, if mom was making this again she would use blueberries.  If you do choose to use cherries make sure to pit them first.

Summer Time Saute

1 1lb ground meat (like turkey)

Diced summer squash

1/2 cup of fruit, blueberries are a good choice.  We used cherries but you have to be sure to pit them first.

Saute the meat, veggies, and fruit together and perk up the kibble!

  1. The kibble topper looks quite tasty! I sometimes sprinkle little amount of tuna flakes on boys' meal :-)

  2. Kibble topper! That's a great idea! I've never tried yellow squash, but I do like blueberries!

    Your pal, Pip

  3. The turkey yes but the rest yuk,I hate kibbles and anything veggie. We hope though you like. Mum is kind to make your kibbles more interesting. Have a good day all.

  8. our mom always has to have a mix-in for our food, because i(yuki)will not eat plain kibble. your mix-ins look really tasty too. i have not heard of cherries being bad, only heard of them being very nutritious, of course discard the pits and stems like you said.

  9. I've got Corgis....there's nothing they won't eat with gusto, even kibble. But, hey, that topper looks good enough for even the people to eat!

  10. Yummy! I bet your pups loved the heck out of this.

  11. So you use this in addition to the kibble not in place of? I had heard that cooked turkey is bad for dogs, and so my guys never get cooked turkey. Have you heard anything about that?

  12. Yum! We are loving summer with all the fresh fruits and vegetables. This week, mom got a canary melon in her CSA! Never even heard of that before!

  13. Um...don't tell Daddy, but that's what Mama made for dinner...for him. Add a dash of spice and serve over rice instead of kibble and Ta Da! Kibble topper for humans ;0)

  14. Ohhh it sounds so nummy. What a great idea. I want some!

  15. Hello
It is lovely to meet you! That kibble topper looks really good. We keep suggesting prime steak for a topper in our house but noboday takes the hint, pfft!

  16. :-) Some dogs are eating better than the people over here - again!

We don't always get kibble toppers so sometimes we make our own - Lil took a few tomatoes off the counter and snarffed them down and didn't even share! Silly Lab.

  17. I am going to make up a dish for Schooner and Skipper tonight. Thanks for the recipe!!

  18. Ooooh that looks tasty.

I have no trouble downing a bowl of plain ol' kibble (I'm a food maniac) but adding a little bit of yummy kibble topper sure wouldn't hurt!
